How Aistear was developed

Introduction

Aistear is the new curriculum framework for all children from birth to six years in Ireland. It provides information, ideas and suggestions to help you support children's learning and development during this important stage of their lives.

The Frameworkwas developed with the early childhood sector and supports Síolta, The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education (2006) and the Primary School Curriculum (1999).

Where can I get a copy of Aistear?

There is a limited number of print copies of Aistear. The Framework is also published on CD ROM. See the details below of how and where you can get a copy.

Practitioner participating in the Pre-School Year Initiative Contact your local County Childcare Committee for information on getting a print copy of Aistear for your setting.
Primary school teacher working with junior and/or senior infantsContact your local Education Centre for information on getting a CD and/or print copy of Aistear for your school.
Parents and othersTake a look at Aistear online or on a CD when you visit your nearest main county library.
