Aistear’s Themes

Aistear uses four themes to describe children’s learning and development. These themes are

  • Well-being
  • Identity and Belonging
  • Communicating
  • Exploring and Thinking.

Each theme has aims and learning goals. A number of practitioners are working with the NCCA to show the themes, aims and learning goals in action in their settings. Below are some examples from the Communicating and Exploring and Thinking themes. You might also be interested in looking at the accompanying documents for some questions to help you think about these examples and your own work in your setting.
