The purpose of the Guidelines

The main purpose of the guidelines is to assist post-primary and special schools in designing learning programmes to meet the specific needs of the students in question. They have been developed in collaboration with schools that have considerable expertise and have developed innovative practice based on their experience of what is appropriate and what works for the students in question.

Where the Guidelines will be used

It is intended for use by school management, teachers and should be accessible to a range of others directly involved with the students’ education, including parents, special needs assistants (SNAs), therapists, and guidance counsellors.
