Information for Parents: Primary
The NCCA developed the Primary School Curriculum in 1999 through a partnership process involving parents. The curriculum reminds us that:
"parents are the child's primary educators, and the life of the home is the most potent factor in his or her development during the primary school years". (Introduction, p.21)
There are many resources available to parents to help them support their child's learning in primary school. Teachers and principal teachers have also found it very useful to distribute these resources at information and parent/teacher meetings. The fact that many of the resources are available in various languages allows teachers to communicate key messages about the Irish primary curriculum, and about what happens in schools, to those parents whose first language is neither English nor Irish.
