Review of Languages in Post-Primary Education
The current phase of the review of post-primary languages involves work in the areas of Irish, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
English and Modern European Languages
The syllabuses for English, French, German, Italian and Spanish will become part of the consultation on Senior Cycle in 2012.
Irish in the review
At the request of the Minister for Education and Skills, the NCCA is currently planning a review of Leaving Certificate Irish focused on evaluating the recently introduced increase in the marks given to the oral test in the certificate examinations, and the adjustments to the syllabuses for Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate Irish that these gave rise to.
Students must study Irish as part of their Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programmes in schools. Irish is the only subject that students must take as part of a Leaving Certificate course.
