Try out the NCCA Report Card Creator at www.reportcard.ncca.ie . Primary schools can use this online tool to create their own pupil report cards in seven easy steps. The Report Card Creator provides a range of options to help schools meet their particular reporting needs and preferences. Schools can use the Report Card Creator or the original nine Report Card Templates to meet the reporting requirement for schools set out in Department of Education and Skills circular letter Initial Steps in the Implementation of the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy.
Minister launches new course in Chinese Language and Culture for Transition Year Students
A transition unit on Chinese language and culture has been developed jointly by the NCCA and the UCD Confucius Institute. The unit is designed to introduce students to both traditional and modern aspects of Chinese culture and to support students learning some of the Chinese language.
Junior Cycle School Network
The NCCA junior cycle network schools have had their inaugural meeting. Look out for resources on the junior cycle website as they are developed. The list of network schools is available here.

Consultation Reports on Senior Cycle Short Courses, Physical Education and Science
Following an extensive consultation on two short courses, three science subjects and physical education at senior cycle, consultation reports are now available. Teachers, students, parents, business interests and others contributed through online surveys, seminars, focus groups, meetings and written submissions.
Brigid McManus to chair NCCA
The Minister has appointed Brigid McManus, former Secretary General of the Department of Education and Skills, as chair of the incoming Council. The Minister said that he was 'delighted to be able to appoint someone of Brigid McManus's experience to this important role'. He also appointed Clive Byrne, Director of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals as his nominee.
New! Updated information for parents on standardised testing
The information leaflets for parents which explain the meaning of standardised test scores have been updated in the line with the new requirements for schools set out in the Department of Education and Skills circular letter Initial Steps in the Implementation of the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy. The leaflets are available in a range of languages. Find the leaflets here

European Key Competences Network
The NCCA has been invited to join a new European Key Competences Network. So far ten countries are participating. We'll be looking for examples of good practice in key competences from schools, teacher educators and other education groups over the next year or so. Watch this space for more information and details of how to report on an initiative that you are involved in.
