The NCCA have been asked to undertake a comprehensive review of RSE by former Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton TD. in primary and post-primary school.
There are three components to this review:
Supporting Parents Communicating with Children Aged 4-9 Years about Relationships, Sexuality and Growing Up is a report that explores the experiences and feelings of parents with regard to talking to their children aged 4-9 years about relationships, sexuality and growing up. This study was commissioned by the HSE Sexual Health & Crisis Pregnancy Programme.
Spotlight: School-based relationships and sexuality education (RSE): lessons for policy and practice is a paper published by the Oireachtas Library & Research Service that sets out to critique Irelands historical relationship with sex education.
Relationships and Sexuality Education Policy Guide for Primary Schools is a policy guide for schools in the provision of RSE produced by the Professional Development Services for Teachers.
The Sensitive Aspects of RSE at Primary Grid is a guide to what the sensitive areas that are addressed in RSE. It was produced by the Professional Development Services for Teachers
Consulation tools with be published shortly. They will enable you to engage in focus groups with parents/guardians, teachers, management and children.
A short survey will also be available shortly for parents/guardians and pupils aged between 12-14.
