Junior and Senior Cycle SPHE
Work to update the Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) curriculum from primary through to senior cycle is continuing. The updated Junior Cycle SPHE curriculum was introduced in schools in September 2023 and the consultation on the draft Senior Cycle SPHE curriculum draws to a close on November 3rd, 2023.

Junior and Senior Cycle SPHE
Arising from the 2018-19 review of Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) in primary and post-primary schools, the need to update the SPHE curriculum was identified by NCCA as a key priority.
This updating work began with Junior Cycle SPHE. Students who started first year in September 2023 are now studying the updated (2023) Junior Cycle SPHE curriculum. Information for parents and support materials for teachers are now available.
The updating work is now focused on Senior Cycle SPHE. The consultation on the draft Senior Cycle SPHE curriculum remains open until November 3rd and so there’s still time to share your views through a survey or written submission. You can view the draft curriculum and the consultation tools here.
