Phase 2 Consultation for Updating Aistear

Last year, NCCA invited the early childhood sector to share their views on what was working well with Aistear and what might need to be updated. The Draft Updated Aistear for consultation has now been published and includes important updates that reflect the changes in the sector and in Irish society over the past number of years. We want to hear your views about these updates to the Framework.

Phase 2 Consultation for Updating Aistear

Phase 2 of consultation began on September 11th 2023 with the publication of the Draft Framework. The Updated Aistear places increased emphasis on the rights of babies, toddlers, and young children while simultaneously acknowledging and celebrating the diversity within families, homes, and communities. This updated framework underscores the enduring significance of learning through play and hands-on experiences in early childhood. Furthermore, it illustrates numerous opportunities for learning through the updated Themes, Aims, and Learning goals. Notably, the framework reinforces the value of fostering friendships and encouraging interactions among babies, toddlers, young children, families, educators, and the broader community.

If you want to find out more, this video provides information about the Key Messages from Phase 1, and gives an overview of the proposed changes to Aistear. NCCA invites parents, educators, and other stakeholders to share your ideas via an online questionnaire, a written submission, and online focus groups in the upcoming weeks. You might find the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document helpful to respond to any queries you may have. The consultation will run until November 14th 2023.

This consultation is a significant opportunity for you to make your voice heard, helping to inform the updates to Aistear and ensure it continues to have a positive impact on the learning and development of babies, toddlers, and young children.
